Attached is the 91-day performance summary for 120 individuals and 14 Gets being evaluated in the 2008 Summer Test. Bulls were weighed on August 19 and their average weight was 1201 vs 1092 on July 22 for a 28-day ADG of 3.90. Through 91 days, ADG is 4.06 lbs. The cooler than normal temperatures thus far in August has helped feed intake and performance. Daily feed cost for the period averaged $2.14 per bull. The soundness committee did their initial inspection of all bulls. The top performing bull is Angus #98 with an ADG of 5.67 and index of 126.7. IBEEF 2007-2008. The 2007-2008 group of 636 steers and 245 heifers completed the program in June. The total of 881 head harvested is the most in the ten-year history of IBEEF. They were fed in five feedlots in Indiana and Iowa beginning in October, November, and December. Steers started on feed weighing 630 lbs and were valued at near $668 per head. Heifers started on feed weighing 570 lbs and were valued at near $561 per head. Increased feed costs, higher initial calf value last fall, but lower harvest prices early this spring took their toll on returns and profits. Steers were on feed an average of 177 days and gained 3.29 lbs per day. Cost of gain was $82.23/cwt with an average loss per head of $15.19. Fifty-eight percent graded choice or higher with 60% yield grade 1 and 2's. Average carcass weight was 758 lbs and price was $146.90/cwt. Heifers were fed an average of 180 days and gained 2.86 lbs. per day. Eighty-two percent graded choice or higher with 42% yield grade 1 and 2's. Average carcass weight was 665 lbs and price was $146.55/cwt. Cost of gain was $80.96/cwt and profit per head averaged $30.61. Let us know if you would like to have a summary.
